Pennsylvania researchers say candy made with a South African plant can suppress appetite and help dieters lose weight.
The Bucks County Clinical Research Inc. in Morrisville, Pa., said the Hoodia Gordonii plant, when consumed, works with the brain to release a compound that indicates to the hypothalamus that the body has consumed enough food.
Dr. Richard Goldfarb, the research group's medical director, said dieters can eat candy made with Hoodia to satisfy between-meal cravings. The chewable candy has no sugar or artificial sweetener. "It's an excellent product that's already been ... proven in a clinical study to curb your appetite," Goldfarb said.
